Bhavana Upanishad

आत्मानमखण्डदमणडलाकारमवृत्य सकलब्बरहमानन्दमनडलं सर्वपरकार्शं ध्यायेत् ।

[ Sutra 1 ]

श्रीगुरुः सर्वकारणभूता शक्तिःति: ॥ १॥

-- Translation --

  1. Shri Guru is Shakti, the primordial power from Whom all the primary elements are created.

[ Sutra 2 ]

तेन नवरनध्रूरूपो देहः ॥ २ ॥

[ Sutra 3 ]

नवचकृरूपं शरीरचक्रम् ॥ ३ ॥

· · ·

-- Translation -- (The wise man) should touch these places (and say): Hail to the Self of the Shri Chakra in the Form of 9 Chakras in the whole Body.

-- Translation -- This body should be meditated upon as the nine chakras, this is the third bhavana. The Sri Chakra has nine triangles four facing upwards called the shiva chakras, and the five facing downwards called shakti chakras. Now when they are put together the form created is one with nine layers, this can be clearly seen in a Mahameru form. And these layers are to be meditated upon on each of the gates of the body. The nine chakras are - Trilokya mohana chakra, sarvasha paripooraka chakra, sarva samkshobhana chakra, sarva saubhagya chakra, sarvartha sadhaka chakra, sarva rakshakara chakra, sarva rogahara chakra, sarva siddhipradha chakra and sarva anandamaya chakra.

[ Sutra 1. ]

-- Translation -- Power: Varahi, the power of bones and dhatus (father); Kurukulla, the power of flesh (and 4 other dhatus)

[ Sutra ४ ]

वाराही पितृरूपा कुरुकुल्ला बलिदेवता माता ॥ ४ ॥

-- Translation -- 4. Varahi is the father-form. Kurukulla, the mother, is the receiver of offerings

[ Sutra 5 ]

पुरुषार्थाः सागराः ॥ ५॥

-- Translation -- 5. The aims of man are the oceans.

[ Sutra 6 ]

देहो नवरत्नद्वीपः ॥ ६॥

-- Translation -- 6. The body is the island of nine gems.

[ Sutra 7 ]

त्वगादि सप्ततथातुरोमसंयुक्ततत् ॥ ७॥

-- Translation -- 7. Skin first, then the seven bodily elements and hair (are the nine).

[ Sutra 8 ]

संकल्पपा: कल्पतरवसूतेर्जा: कल्पकोद्यानम्

-- Translation -- Hail to the Resolution Self, the Aeon Trees. Hail to the Energy Self, the Garden of Aeon Trees.

[ Sutra 9 ]

रसनया भाव्यमाना मधुराम्लतिकृतकटुकषायालवणरसा: षडृतव:

-- Translation -- Hail to the Sweetness Self, Spring Season.

[ Sutra 10. ]

ज्ञानमऱध्ययाम् ज्ञेयम् हविर्ऱज्ञाता होता ज्ञातृज्ञानज्ञेयानामभभवनम् शूरीचकऱपोजनम् ॥ 90॥

[ Sutra 11 ]

नियति: श्रृङ्गारादयो रसा अणिमादय: ॥ ११॥

Hail to the Fearful Emotion, Prakamya Shakti, on the left buttock.

Hail to the Anger Emotion, Bhukti Shakti, on the tips of the fingers of the left hand.

Hail to the Anxious (desire) Emotion, Iccha Shakti, on the back of the left shoulder.

· · ·

Hail to the Lust Emotion, Prapti Shakti, at the root of the generative organ.

· · ·

Hail to the Principle of Restraint, Sarva Kama Shakti, on the back of generative organ.

It is said that the NAVA RASA or nine emotions present in the saadhaka are these siddhis.

In the bahya bhupura, anima, laghima, mahima and isitva are posited in the four doors on the left side, the vasitva, prakamya, prapti, and prakamya) are posited in the four corners starting from the left side of the saadhaka.

The deities in these three rekhas or lines are known as èprakata yoginísí The bhupura is known as trilokya- mohana - cakra, and the presiding deity of this enclosure is Tripura, and she is the sringara rasatmaka (romantic or attracting) sakti of kamesvari.

èTadadhistanam devim ca tripuram svamsatosrujethí ñ Lalito pakhyanam. Maha kamesvari created this èTripurái sakti in her own amsa.

Beejakshara for bhupura is dram.

कामक्रोधलोभमोहमदमत्सर्यपुणयपापमया ब्राह्म्याद्ययट शक्ततयः ॥ १२॥

पृथिव्यप्तेजोवाय्वाकाशाशरोततत्वकूचकषुरूजिह्वघ्राण-वाक्पाणिपादपायूपस्थानी मनोविकारः कामाकरुषिण्यादि षोडश शकृततयः

[ Sutra 14 ]

-- Translation -- Earth, water, fire, air, ether, ear, skin, eye, tongue, nose, speech, hands, feet, anus, organ of generation, and mind's wavering are the sixteen Shaktis - Shoḍaśha Shakti, Kamakarshini being the first.

[ Sutra 15 ]

वचनादानागमनविसर्गानन्दहानोपादानोपेक्षाख्यभूद्धयोङ्नद्गकुसुमादयष्टौ ॥ १५॥

अलम्बुसा कुहुरविश्वोदरा वारणा हस्तिजिह्वा यशोवती पयस्विनी गान्धारी पूषा शङ्खिनी सरस्वतीडा पिङ्गला सुषुम्ना चेति

चतुर्दश नाड्यः सर्वसंकर्षूहोभिण्ययदिचतुर्दशशक्तितयः॥१६॥

प्राणापानव्यानोदानसमाननागकूर्मकृकरदेवदत्ततधनंजयादशावायवः सर्वसिद्धिपरादिबिहिरदशारदेवता: ॥ १७॥

एतद्वायुसंसरगकोपाधिमेधेन रेचक: पाचक: शोशको दाहक: प्लावक इति परामुखयवेन पंचधा जठरागुनिर्भर्‌वति॥ १८॥

[ Sutra 19 ]

कृषारक उद्गारकः कृषोभको जृंभको मोहक इति नागपूराधान्येन पंचबिधासूते मनुष्याणां देहगा भकृष्णहयभोजयशोष्यलेइयपेयात्मकपञ्चविधमनूनं पाचयन्ति॥ १९॥

-- Translation -- Ksharaka, Udgáraka, Kshobaka, Jrimbhaka and Mohaka are fires associated with the lesser breaths. They assist digestion in a fivefold way -- what is eaten, chewed, sucked, licked and drunk.

[ Sutra 20 ]

एता दशवह्निकलाः सर्वज्ञाद्या अनतरूदशारदेवताः ॥ २०॥

-- Translation -- These ten kalas of fire are the devatas of the ten inner (triangles).

[ Sutra 21. ]

शीतोष्णासुखदुःखेच्छा: सतत्त्वं रजस्तमो वशिन्यादिशक्तस्तथयोऽष्टौ ॥ २१॥

Hail to the right of the navel, Desire, Aruna Goddess of Speech.

Hail to the left of the navel, Unhappiness, Vimala Goddess of Speech. Power: One who purifies Letters: ta' group.

Hail to the left of the heart, Sattva Guna, Jayini Goddess of Speech. Hail to the left of the throat, Rajoguna, Sarveshvari Goddess of Speech. Hail to the left of the lip, Tamoguna, Kaulini Goddess of Speech. Hail to the heart, to One's Own Self, Bhukti Siddhi. Hail to the Rahasya Yoginis, One's Own Self, Tripura-Siddha- Hail to One's Unlimited Own Self, Khechari Mudra.

The deites in this chakra are – vashini, kameshwari, modhini, vimala, taruna, jayini, sarveshwari and kaulini. These deities are reffered to as vak devatas, the deities of speech.

[ Sutra 22 ]

शब्दादि तन्मात्रतरा: पंचपुष्पपबाणा: ॥ २२॥

-- Translation -- 22. The five flowery arrows are the sense-impressions, of which sound is the first.

[ Sutra 23 ]

मन इकृ‌षहुधनु: ॥ २३ ॥

-- Translation -- 23. Mind is the bow made of sugar-cane.

[ Sutra 24 ]

राग: पाश: ॥

-- Translation -- 24. Attachment is the noose.

[ Sutra 25 ]

द्वेषो‌ऽड्कुश: ॥ २५॥

-- Translation -- 25. Repulsion is the goad.

-- Translation -- Hail to the lower part of the heart triangle, the Five Substances of the Senses, the All-Piercing Arrows. Hail to the right part of the heart triangle, the Mind, the All Deluding Bow. Hail to the upper part, Attraction, the All Subjugating Noose. Hail to the left part, Repulsion, the All Paralysing Goad.

[ Sutra 26 ]

अव्यक्तत् महदहंकाराः कामेश्वरी वज्रेश्वरी भगमालिन्योऽन्र्तसूत्रतरिकोणगा देवताः ॥ २६ ॥

-- Translation -- 26. Nature, intelligence and 'I am' are the devatas of the inner triangle (trikona) - Kameshvari, Bhagamalini and Vajreshvari.

[ Sutra 27 ]

निरुपाधिसंविदेव कामेश्वर ॥ २७॥

-- Translation -- 27. Existential knowledge, awareness without attributes is the Deity of Kameshvara.

सदाऽऽनन्दपूरणः सर्वात्मकैव परदेवता ललिता ॥ २८॥

लौहित्यमेतसृय सर्वस्यैव विमर्शः ॥ २९॥

अनन्यचितत्ततत्वेन च सिद्धीः ॥ ३०॥

अहं तवमसृती नास्ति करतव्यमकरतव्यमुपासितव्यामिति विकल्‍पानामातंमनि विलापनं होमः

भवनाविषयाणामभेदभावना तर्पणम्

पंचदशतिथिरूपेण कालसूय परिणामावलोकनम्

[ Sutra 35 ]

एवमं मुहूर्ततततरितयं मुहूर्तलद्वितयं मुहूर्तमात्तरं वा भावनापरो जीवनमुक्ततो भवति स एव शिवयोगीति गदूयते॥ ३५॥

आदिमतेनानूतशचकृभावना: पूरतिपादिता: ॥ ३६ ॥

-- Translation -- Kadi - means following the 'ka' system. Ka is the beginning. This system is the KAula Marga.

य एवं वेद सोऽथर्वणशिरोधीते ॥ ३७॥

इत्युपनिषत् ॥

ॐ भद्रं करणेᳶभिः शृणुयाम देवा । भद्रं पश्येमाकष्मभिर्यजत्राः।

सथिरैरड्रैसस्तुषट्वा*ससतनूभिः । वृयशेम देवहितं यदायु: ।

· · ·

सवस्सति न इन्दरो वृध्धश्रवा: । सवस्सति नः पूषा विशुाववेदाः।

· · ·

सवस्सति नस्तार्क्ष्यौडरिष्टनेमिः । सवस्सति नो बृहस्पतिर्‌द्धातु।

· · ·

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
