असमानप्रवरैर् विवाहः । ॥2 ऊर्ध्वं सप्तमात् पितृबन्धुभ्यो । ॥3 बीजिनश् च । ॥4 मातृबन्धुभ्यः पञ्चमात् । ॥5
2 A marriage can be contracted only between persons not belonging to a family with the same ancestral seer 3 and not related within six degrees on the side of the legal 4 or the biological father, 5 or within four degrees on the mother's side. [G 4.2–5]
Baudhāyana
आपः पवित्रं भूमिगता गोतृप्तिर् यासु जायते ॥10 अव्याप्ताश् चेद् अमेध्येन गन्धवर्णरसअन्विताः ॥10 सपिण्डता त्व् आ सप्तमात् सपिण्डेषु ॥2
2 Among people belonging to the same ancestry, the relationship based on common ancestry extends to the seventh generation. ... 9 Furthermore, one's great-grandfather, grandfather, father, oneself, one's uterine brothers, son by a wife of the same class, grandson, and great-grandson-but not the great-grandson's son- they say, belong to the same ancestry; among these, one's son and grandson share an undivided oblation. 10 Those who share in separate oblations, they say, belong to the same family line. Vasiṣṭha
गृहस्थस्विनीतक्रोधहर्षस्गुरुणाअनुज्ञातस्स्नात्वाअसमानआर्षेयाम् अस्पृष्टमैथुनाम् अवरवयसीम्सदृशीम्भार्याम्विन्देत ॥1 पञ्चमीम्मातृबन्धुभ्यस्सप्तमीम्पितृबन्धुभ्यः ॥2
1 Householder-after bringing his anger and excitement under control and taking the final bath with the permission of his teacher, he should select or his wife a woman who does not belong to a lineage with the same ancestral seer, who has not experienced sex before, who is younger than he and belongs to the same class as he, 2 and who is not related within four degrees on the mother's side or six degrees on the father's side.
