Verse १

hariḥ om|| ātmā vā idameka evāgra āsīnnānyatkiñcana miṣat | sa īkṣata lokānnu sṛjā iti ||

In the beginning the Spirit was One and all this (universe) was the Spirit; there was nought else that saw. The Spirit thought, “Lo, I will make me worlds from out my being.” अग्ने - agne - in the beginning | आत्मा - ātmā - the Spirit | एकः एव - ekaḥ eva - One | आसीत् - āsīt - was | इदम् वै - idam vai - and all this (universe was the Spirit) | न अन्यत् किञ्चन - na anyat kiñcana - there was nought else | मिषत् - miṣat - that saw | सः ईक्षत - saḥ īkṣata - the Spirit thought | लोकान् नु सृजै इति - lokān nu sṛjai iti - I will make me worlds from out my being | m ! May my speech be based on (i.e. accord with) the mind; May my mind be based on speech. O Self-effulgent One, reveal Thyself to me. May you both (speech and mind) be the carriers of the Veda to me. May not all that I have heard depart from me. I shall join together (i.e. obliterate the difference of) day And night through this study. I shall utter what is verbally true; I shall utter what is mentally true. May that (Brahman) protect me; May That protect the speaker (i.e. the teacher), may That protect me; May that protect the speaker - may That protect the speaker. Om ! Peace ! Peace ! Peace !

Verse २

sa imāṁllokānasṛjata - - ambho marīcīrmamāpo'mbhaḥ pareṇa divaṁ dyauḥ pratiṣṭhā'ntarikṣaṁ marīcayaḥ ||pṛthivī maro yā adhastāttā āpaḥ ||

These were the worlds he made; Ambhah, of the ethereal waters, Marichih of light, Mara, of death and mortal things, Apah, of the lower waters. Beyond the shining firmament are the ethereal waters and the firmament is their base and resting place; Space is the world of light; the earth is the world mortal; and below the earth are the lower waters. सः - saḥ - he | इमान् लोकान् - imān lokān - these worlds | असृजत - asṛjata - made | अम्भः - ambhaḥ - the ethereal waters | मरीचीः - marīcīḥ - light, Apah | मरम् - maram - death and mortal things | आपः - āpaḥ - the lower waters | दिवम् अन्तरिक्षम् परेण - divam antarikṣam pareṇa - beyond the shining firmament | अम्भः - ambhaḥ - are the ethereal waters | अदः प्रतिष्ठा - adaḥ pratiṣṭhā - the firmament is their base and resting place | दौः मरीचयः - dauḥ marīcayaḥ - Space is the world of light | पृथिवी मरः - pṛthivī maraḥ - the earth is the world mortal | याः अधस्तात् - yāḥ adhastāt - that below the earth | ताः आपः - tāḥ āpaḥ - are the lower waters | In the beginning this was but the absolute Self alone. There was nothing else whatsoever that winked. He thought, "Let Me create the worlds."

Verse ३

sa īkṣateme nu lokā lokapālānnu sṛjā iti ||so'dbhya eva puruṣaṁ samuddhṛtyāmūrcchayat ||

The Spirit thought, “Lo, these are the worlds; and now will I make me guardians for my worlds.” Therefore he gathered the Purusha out of the waters and gave Him shape and substance. सः ईक्षत - saḥ īkṣata - the Spirit thought | इमे नु लोकाः - ime nu lokāḥ - Lo, these are the worlds | लोकपालान् नु - lokapālān nu - guardians for my worlds | सृजै इति - sṛjai iti - now will I make | सः - saḥ - he | अद्भ्यः एव - adbhyaḥ eva - out of the waters | पुरुषम् - puruṣam - the Purusha | समुद्धृत्य - samuddhṛtya - gathered | अमूर्च्छयत् - amūrcchayat - gave shape and substance | He created these world, viz. ambhas, marici, mara, apah. That which is beyond heaven is ambhas. Heaven is its support. The sky is marici. The earth is mara. The worlds that are below are the apah.

Let Me create the protectors of the worlds." Having gathered up a (lump of the) human form from the water itself, He gave shape to it.
