Verse १
tā etā devatāḥ sṛṣṭā asminmahatyarṇave prāpataṁstamaśanāpipāsābhyāmanvavārjat |tā enamabruvannāyatanaṁ naḥ prajānīhi yasmin pratiṣṭhitā annamadāmeti ||
These were the Gods that He created; they fell into this great Ocean, and Hunger and Thirst leaped upon them. Then they said to Him, “Command unto us an habitation that we may dwell secure and eat of food.” सृष्टाः - sṛṣṭāḥ - created | ताः एताः देवताः - tāḥ etāḥ devatāḥ - these were the Gods | अस्मिन् महति अर्णवे - asmin mahati arṇave - into this great Ocean | प्रापतन् - prāpatan - they fell | तम् - tam - upon them | असनपिपासाभ्याम् - asanapipāsābhyām - Hunger and Thirst | अन्वावर्जत् - anvāvarjat - leaped | ताः - tāḥ - they | एनम् अबृवन् - enam abṛvan - said to Him | नः प्रजानीहि - naḥ prajānīhi - command unto us | यस्मिन् - yasmin - in which | प्रतिष्ठिताः - pratiṣṭhitāḥ - we may dwell secure | अन्नम् अदाम इति - annam adāma iti - and eat of food | I-i-4: He deliberated with regard to Him (i.e. Virat of the human form). As He (i.e. Virat) was being deliberated on, His (i.e. Virat'') mouth parted, just as an egg does. From the mouth emerged speech; from speech came Fire. The nostrils parted; from the nostrils came out the sense of smell; from the sense of smell came Vayu (Air). The two eyes parted; from the eyes emerged the sense of sight; from the sense of sight came the Sun. The two ears parted; from the ears came the sense of hearing; from the sense of hearing came the Directions. The skin emerged; from the skin came out hair (i.e. the sense of touch associated with hair); from the sense of touch came the Herbs and Trees. The heart took shape; from the heart issued the internal organ (mind); from the internal organ came the Moon. The navel parted; from the navel came out the organ of ejection; from the organ of ejection issued Death. The seat of the procreative organ parted; from that came the procreative organ; from the procreative organ came out Water.
Verse २

Then Hunger and Thirst said unto the Spirit, “Unto us too command an habitation.” But He said unto them, “Even among these gods do I apportion you; lo! I have made you sharers in their godhead.” Therefore to whatever god the oblation is offered, Hunger and Thirst surely have their share in the offering. तम् - tam - unto the Spirit | अशनापिपासे - aśanāpipāse - then Hunger and Thirst | आबाभ्याम् - ābābhyām - unto us | अभिप्रजानीहि इति - abhiprajānīhi iti - command an habitation | अब्रूताम् - abrūtām - said | सः - saḥ - he | ते अब्रवीत् - te abravīt - said unto them | एतासु देवतासु एव - etāsu devatāsu eva - even among these gods | वाम् आभजामि - vām ābhajāmi - do I apportion you | एतासु - etāsu - in their godhead | भागिनौ करोमि इति - bhāginau karomi iti - I have made you sharers | तस्मात् - tasmāt - therefore | यस्यै कस्यै च देवतायै - yasyai kasyai ca devatāyai - to whatever god | हविः गृह्यते - haviḥ gṛhyate - the oblation is offered | अशनापिपासे - aśanāpipāse - Hunger and Thirst | अस्याम् - asyām - in the offering | भागिन्यौ एव भवतः आयतनम् - bhāginyau eva bhavataḥ āyatanam - surely have their share | Fire entered into the mouth taking the form of the organ of speech; Air entered into the nostrils assuming the form of the sense of smell; the Sun entered into the eyes as the sense of sight; the Directions entered into the ears by becoming the sense of hearing; the Herbs and Trees entered into the skin in the form of hair (i.e. the sense of touch); the Moon entered into the heart in the shape of the mind; Death entered into the navel in the form of Apana (i.e. the vital energy that presses down); Water entered into the limb of generation in the form of semen (i.e. the organ of procreation).
