Sūkta 1 — Prajapati Devata, Atharva Rshi
Atharvaveda 16.1 · 13 mantras
16.1.1
अतिसृष्टो अपां वृषभो ऽतिसृष्टा अग्नयो दिव्याः ॥
atisṛṣṭo apāṃ vṛṣabho 'tisṛṣṭā agnayo divyāḥ ॥
The mighty cloud of the waters of life is released, the flood is on the flow, the divine fires of life are released, the lights radiate, ...
16.1.2
रुजन् परिरुजन् मृणन् प्रमृणन् ॥
rujan parirujan mṛṇan pramṛṇan ॥
16.1.3
म्रोको मनोहा खनो निर्दाह आत्मदूषिस् तनूदूषिः ॥
mroko manohā khano nirdāha ātmadūṣis tanūdūṣiḥ ॥
Whatever is burning, depressing the mind, piercing and uprooting, consuming, polluting body and soul.
16.1.4
इदं तम् अति सृजामि तं माभ्यवनिक्षि ॥
idaṃ tam ati sṛjāmi taṃ mābhyavanikṣi ॥
All this I give up, let all this never touch me, let me never touch it again.
16.1.5
तेन तम् अभ्यतिसृजामो यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि यं वयं द्विष्मः ॥
tena tam abhyatisṛjāmo yo 'smān dveṣṭi yaṃ vayaṃ dviṣmaḥ ॥
And thus and thereby we give up all that is hostile and unfriendly to us and all that which we hate to suffer.
16.1.6
अपाम् अग्रम् असि समुद्रं वो ऽभ्यवसृजामि ॥
apām agram asi samudraṃ vo 'bhyavasṛjāmi ॥
O Vrshabha, cloud of divine showers, you are the pioneer of will and action. O will and actions of mind and will, I assign you all to the oceanic depths of the heart and soul suffered in the waters of divine light and generosity.
16.1.7
यो ऽप्स्व् अग्निर् अति तं सृजामि म्रोकं खनिं तनूदूषिम् ॥
yo 'psv agnir ati taṃ sṛjāmi mrokaṃ khaniṃ tanūdūṣim ॥
The fire that is in the mind-and-will flow of action, breaking, piercing and polluting the body and senses, that fire I give up.
16.1.8
यो व आपो ऽग्निर् आविवेश स एष यद् वो घोरं तद् एतत् ॥
yo va āpo 'gnir āviveśa sa eṣa yad vo ghoraṃ tad etat ॥
O flow of will and action (of the individual and collective humanity), the fire that has entered you, that fire is cruel and destructive.
16.1.9
इन्द्रस्य व इन्द्रियेणाभि षिञ्चेत् ॥
indrasya va indriyeṇābhi ṣiñcet ॥
That fire, let the flood of divine waters of the ‘cloud’ in the soul and in the power of the senses and mind sprinkle and consecrate into peace.
16.1.10
अरिप्रा आपो अप रिप्रम् अस्मत् ॥
ariprā āpo apa ripram asmat ॥
Let the waters, the flow of will and action, purified and free from sin, dispel sin and evil from us.
16.1.11
प्रास्मद् एनो वहन्तु प्र दुष्वप्न्यं वहन्तु ॥
prāsmad eno vahantu pra duṣvapnyaṃ vahantu ॥
Let the waters of purity and divinity carry away sin and evil dreams and the consequences of evil dreams.
16.1.12
शिवेन मा चक्षुषा पश्यतापः शिवया तन्वोप स्पृशत त्वचं मे ॥
śivena mā cakṣuṣā paśyatāpaḥ śivayā tanvopa spṛśata tvacaṃ me ॥
O waters of purity, vibrations of divinity, radiations of holy light, watch and bless with the eye of peace, love and grace, touch and consecrate my body with your divine presence.
16.1.13
शिवान् अग्नीन् अप्सुषदो हवामहे मयि क्षत्रं वर्च आ धत्त देवीः ॥
śivān agnīn apsuṣado havāmahe mayi kṣatraṃ varca ā dhatta devīḥ ॥
We invoke the divine light of mind and divine fire of will and action vibrant in the divine waters and radiant in the light divine. O divine showers of light and grace, consecrate me with splendour as individual and as the human social order.
Sūkta 2 — Vak Devata, Atharva Rshi
Atharvaveda 16.2 · 6 mantras
16.2.1
निर् दुरर्मण्य ऊर्जा मधुमती वाक् ॥
nir durarmaṇya ūrjā madhumatī vāk ॥
Let adversity be away. Let there be strength and energy all round. Let speech be honey sweet.
16.2.2
मधुमती स्थ मधुमतीं वाचम् उदेयम् ॥
madhumatī stha madhumatīṃ vācam udeyam ॥
O thoughts, will and actions, be good and honey sweet. Let us speak words of honeyed sweetness.
16.2.3
उपहूतो मे गोपाः उपहूतो गोपीथः ॥
upahūto me gopāḥ upahūto gopīthaḥ ॥
I have invoked my preceptor and protector of speech. I have invoked the protector and promoter of mind and senses.
16.2.4
सुश्रुतौ कर्णौ भद्रश्रुतौ कर्णौ भद्रं श्लोकं श्रूयासम् ॥
suśrutau karṇau bhadraśrutau karṇau bhadraṃ ślokaṃ śrūyāsam ॥
Let my ears be efficient in hearing. Let them be good so that I may hear good things. Let me hear good words of noble meaning.
16.2.5
सुश्रुतिश् च मोपश्रुतिश् च मा हासिष्टां सौपर्णं चक्षुर् अजस्रं ज्योतिः ॥
suśrutiś ca mopaśrutiś ca mā hāsiṣṭāṃ sauparṇaṃ cakṣur ajasraṃ jyotiḥ ॥
16.2.6
ऋषीणां प्रस्तरो ऽसि नमो ऽस्तु दैवाय प्रस्तराय ॥

Sūkta 3
Atharvaveda 16.3 · 6 mantras
16.3.1
मूर्धाहं रयीणां मूर्धा समानानां भूयासम् ॥
mūrdhāhaṃ rayīṇāṃ mūrdhā samānānāṃ bhūyāsam ॥
Let me be on top of honour, wealth and excellence, let me rise to the top among equals.
16.3.2
रुजश् च मा वेनश् च मा हासिष्टां मूर्धा च मा विधर्मा च मा हासिष्टाम् ॥
rujaś ca mā venaś ca mā hāsiṣṭāṃ mūrdhā ca mā vidharmā ca mā hāsiṣṭām ॥
Let the splendour and power to break down evil, and the lustre and light of divine knowledge, never forsake me. Let wisdom and love of Dharma never
16.3.3
उर्वश् च मा चमसश् च मा हासिष्टां धर्ता च मा धरुणश् च मा हासिष्टाम् ॥
urvaś ca mā camasaś ca mā hāsiṣṭāṃ dhartā ca mā dharuṇaś ca mā hāsiṣṭām ॥
Let havi, ladle and generosity never forsake me. Let the divine supporter and the sustainer never forsake me. Let the power to sustain and support never forsake me.
16.3.4
विमोकश् च मार्द्रपविश् च मा हासिष्टाम् आर्द्रदानुश् च मा मातरिश्वा च मा हासिष्टाम् ॥
vimokaś ca mārdrapaviś ca mā hāsiṣṭām ārdradānuś ca mā mātariśvā ca mā hāsiṣṭām ॥
Let the lord giver of Moksha and the moving wheel never forsake me. Let abundant flowing generosity and life giving cosmic wind never forsake me.
16.3.5
बृहस्पतिर् म आत्मा नृमणा नाम हृद्यः ॥
bṛhaspatir ma ātmā nṛmaṇā nāma hṛdyaḥ ॥
Let Brhaspati, lord of boundless universe, be the inspirer of my soul, and universal generosity of human nature be at the core of my heart.
16.3.6
असंतापं मे हृदयम् उर्वी गव्यूतिः समुद्रो अस्मि विधर्मणा ॥
asaṃtāpaṃ me hṛdayam urvī gavyūtiḥ samudro asmi vidharmaṇā ॥
Let my heart be free from sorrow and suffering.
Sūkta 4
Atharvaveda 16.4 · 7 mantras
16.4.1
नाभिर् अहं रयीणां नाभिः समानानां भूयासम् ॥
nābhir ahaṃ rayīṇāṃ nābhiḥ samānānāṃ bhūyāsam ॥
Let me be at the centre of wealth, honour and excellence. Let me be at the centre of my equals.
16.4.2
स्वासद् असि सूषा अमृतो मर्त्येश्व् आ ॥
svāsad asi sūṣā amṛto martyeśv ā ॥
You are well settled at peace, rising like the holy dawn, and immortal among mortals.
16.4.3
मा मां प्राणो हासीन् मो अपानो ऽवहाय परा गात् ॥
mā māṃ prāṇo hāsīn mo apāno 'vahāya parā gāt ॥
Let not prana forsake me, let not apana forsake me and go apart.
16.4.4
सूर्यो माह्नः पात्व् अग्निः पृथिव्या वायुर् अन्तरिक्षाद् यमो मनुष्येभ्यः सरस्वती पार्थिवेभ्यः ॥
sūryo māhnaḥ pātv agniḥ pṛthivyā vāyur antarikṣād yamo manuṣyebhyaḥ sarasvatī pārthivebhyaḥ ॥
Let the Sun protect me from the day’s fears, let Agni, fire, protect me from the earth’s fears, let Vayu protect me from fears of the sky, let Yama, lord of law and order, protect me from fears of the human world. and Sarasvati save me from fears of what happens on the earth.
16.4.5
प्राणापनौ मा मा हासिष्टम् मा जने प्र मेषि ॥
prāṇāpanau mā mā hāsiṣṭam mā jane pra meṣi ॥
Let prana and apana not forsake me, let me not die out among men.
16.4.6
स्वस्त्य् अद्योषसो दोषसश् च सर्व आपः सर्वगणो अशीय ॥
svasty adyoṣaso doṣasaś ca sarva āpaḥ sarvagaṇo aśīya ॥
Let all be good with happiness and well being day and night, today. Let all pranic energies and all activities be full of happiness and well being. Let me, with all my people and everything around, be happy, blessed with goodness and well being.
16.4.7
शक्वरी स्थ पशवो मोप स्थेषुर् मित्रावरुणौ मे प्राणापानाव् अग्निर् मे दक्षं दधातु ॥
śakvarī stha paśavo mopa stheṣur mitrāvaruṇau me prāṇāpānāv agnir me dakṣaṃ dadhātu ॥
O people of the world, be bold and powerful, may all living beings around me abide in joy. May Mitra and Varuna, divine sun and moon, give me prana and apana energies of nature, and Agni, heat and light of life, bless me with strength and efficiency.
Sūkta 5 — Svapna Devata, Yama Rshi
Atharvaveda 16.5 · 6 mantras
16.5.1
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं ग्राह्याः पुत्रो ऽसि यमस्य करणः ।
अन्तको ऽसि मृत्युर् असि ।
तं त्वा स्वप्न तथा सं विद्म स नः स्वप्न दुष्वप्न्यात् पाहि ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ grāhyāḥ putro 'si yamasya karaṇaḥ ।
antako 'si mṛtyur asi ।
taṃ tvā svapna tathā saṃ vidma sa naḥ svapna duṣvapnyāt pāhi ॥
O dream, we know your origin, you are the child of adversity, you are an agent of Yama, You are a harbinger of the end, you are death indeed. O dream we know what you are. O sleep, save us from evil dreams.
16.5.2
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं निरृत्याः पुत्रो ऽसि यमस्य करणः । [...] ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ nirṛtyāḥ putro 'si yamasya karaṇaḥ । [...] ॥
O dream, we know your origin, you are the child of loss and want, you are an agent of Yama, you are a harbinger of the end, you are death indeed. O dream, we know what you are. O sleep, save us from evil dreams.
16.5.3
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं अभूत्याः पुत्रो ऽसि यमस्य [...] ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ abhūtyāḥ putro 'si yamasya [...] ॥
O dream, we know your origin, you are the child of defeat and frustration, you are an agent of Yama, you are a harbinger of the end, you are death itself. O dream, we know what you are really. O sleep, save us from bad dreams.
16.5.4
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं निर्भूत्याः पुत्रो ऽसि [...] ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ nirbhūtyāḥ putro 'si [...] ॥
O dream, we know your origin, you are the child of disturbed mind and senses. You are an agent of Yama.
16.5.5
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं पराभूत्याः पुत्रो ऽसि [...] ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ parābhūtyāḥ putro 'si [...] ॥
You are the harbinger of the end, you are death
16.5.6
विद्म ते स्वप्न जनित्रं देवजामीनां पुत्रो ऽसि यमस्य करणः ।
अन्तको ऽसि मृत्युर् असि ।
तं त्वा स्वप्न तथा सं विद्म स नः स्वप्न दुष्वप्न्यात् पाहि ॥
vidma te svapna janitraṃ devajāmīnāṃ putro 'si yamasya karaṇaḥ ।

O dream, we know what you are really. O sleep, protect us from evil dreams.
Sūkta 6 — Duh-svapna-nashanam Devata, Yama Rshi
Atharvaveda 16.6 · 11 mantras
16.6.1
अजैष्माद्यासनाम् अद्यामूम् अनागसो वयम् ॥
ajaiṣmādyāsanām adyāmūm anāgaso vayam ॥
We have won over bad dreams today. We have acquired what we had wanted to acquire, realised our noble dreams. We have become free from sin and guilt.
16.6.2
उषो यस्माद् दुष्वप्न्याद् अभैष्माप तद् उछतु ॥
uṣo yasmād duṣvapnyād abhaiṣmāpa tad uchatu ॥
Let the dawn dispel the evil dream, of which we were afraid.
16.6.3
द्विषते तत् परा वह शपते तत् परा वह ॥
dviṣate tat parā vaha śapate tat parā vaha ॥
Take the evil dream to him that hates, to him that execrates.
16.6.4
यं द्विष्मो यश् च नो द्वेष्टि तस्मा एनद् गमयामः ॥
yaṃ dviṣmo yaś ca no dveṣṭi tasmā enad gamayāmaḥ ॥
We send it to him that hates us, to him whom we hate to suffer (because of his curses).
16.6.5
उषा देवी वाचा संविदाना वाग् देव्य् उषसा संविदाना ॥
uṣā devī vācā saṃvidānā vāg devy uṣasā saṃvidānā ॥
Let heavenly dawn join with holy speech and
16.6.6
उषस् पतिर् वाचस् पतिना संविदानो वाचस् पतिना संविदानः ॥
uṣas patir vācas patinā saṃvidāno vācas patinā saṃvidānaḥ ॥
Let the lord and master of heavenly dawn join with the lord and master of holy speech, and the lord and master of holy speech join with the lord and master of heavenly dawn. (Indeed the two are together and inseparable. The mantra is an exhortation to the holy man of meditation.)
16.6.7
ते ऽमुष्मै परा वहन्त्व् अरायान् दुर्णाम्नः सदान्वाः ॥
te 'muṣmai parā vahantv arāyān durṇāmnaḥ sadānvāḥ ॥
Let the divine laws of nature carry back to that hater and execrator all miseries, notorieties and calamities...
16.6.8
कुम्भीकाः दूषीकाः पीयकान् ॥
kumbhīkāḥ dūṣīkāḥ pīyakān ॥
All swellings, contagions and fatalities ...
16.6.9
जाग्रद्दुष्वप्न्यं स्वप्नेदुष्वप्न्यम् ॥
jāgradduṣvapnyaṃ svapneduṣvapnyam ॥
All evil day-dreams and all evil dreams in
16.6.10
अनागमिष्यतो वरान् अवित्तेः संकल्पान् अमुच्या द्रुहः पाशान् ॥
anāgamiṣyato varān avitteḥ saṃkalpān amucyā druhaḥ pāśān ॥
All ambitions which are not realisable, resolutions for wealth lost in poverty and fetters of hate and jealousy which are unbreakable.
16.6.11
तद् अमुष्मा अग्ने देवाः परा वहन्तु वघ्रिर् यथासद् विथुरो न साधुः ॥
tad amuṣmā agne devāḥ parā vahantu vaghrir yathāsad vithuro na sādhuḥ ॥
All these, O Agni, lord of light, may the Devas, divine laws and forces of nature, carry away to the man of hate and execration so that the evil doer may suffer the ineffectuality of his painful performance.
Sūkta 7 — Duh-svapna-nashanam Devata, Yama Rshi
Atharvaveda 16.7 · 13 mantras
16.7.1
तेनैनं विध्याम्य् अभूत्यैनं विध्यामि निर्भूत्यैनं विध्यामि पराभूत्यैनं विध्यामि ग्राह्यैनं विध्यामि तमसैनं विध्यामि ॥
tenainaṃ vidhyāmy abhūtyainaṃ vidhyāmi nirbhūtyainaṃ vidhyāmi parābhūtyainaṃ vidhyāmi grāhyainaṃ vidhyāmi tamasainaṃ vidhyāmi ॥
I fix this evil dreamer with that ineffectuality which is the consequence of his sufferance and painful performance: I fix him with want and poverty. I fix him with loss and deprivation. I fix him with defeat and frustration. I fix him with seizure. I fix him with utter darkness and ignorance.
16.7.2
देवानाम् एनं घोरैः क्रूरैः प्रैषैर् अभिप्रेष्यामि ॥
devānām enaṃ ghoraiḥ krūraiḥ praiṣair abhipreṣyāmi ॥
I knock him down with terrible visitations of nature’s inevitable furies.
16.7.3
वैश्वानरस्यैनं दंष्ट्रयोर् अपि दधामि ॥
vaiśvānarasyainaṃ daṃṣṭrayor api dadhāmi ॥
I place him in the jaws of the ordeal of human destiny ordained by divine law of natural justice.
16.7.4
एवानेवाव सा गरत् ॥
evānevāva sā garat ॥
Thus or otherwise let that dispensation of justice deal with the evil dreamer.
16.7.5
यो ऽस्मान् द्वेष्टि तम् आत्मा द्वेष्टु यं वयं द्विष्मः स आत्मानं द्वेष्टु ॥
yo 'smān dveṣṭi tam ātmā dveṣṭu yaṃ vayaṃ dviṣmaḥ sa ātmānaṃ dveṣṭu ॥
Whoever hates us, his own conscience would reject him in that, and whoever we hate would arraign his own conscience.
16.7.6
निर् द्विषन्तं दिवो निः पृथिव्या निर् अन्तरिक्षाद् भजाम ॥
nir dviṣantaṃ divo niḥ pṛthivyā nir antarikṣād bhajāma ॥
We dispense with the hater’s share from the earth, from the sky and from the heavens.
16.7.7
सुयामंश् चाक्षुष ॥
suyāmaṃś cākṣuṣa ॥
16.7.8
इदम् अहम् आमुष्यायणे ऽमुष्याः पुत्रे दुष्वप्न्यं मृजे ॥
idam aham āmuṣyāyaṇe 'muṣyāḥ putre duṣvapnyaṃ mṛje ॥
Here, through this dispensation, do I cleanse and wash away the evil dream present in the son of such and such father and such and such mother.
16.7.9
यद् अदोअदो अभ्यगछं यद् दोषा यत् पूर्वां रात्रिम् ॥
yad adoado abhyagachaṃ yad doṣā yat pūrvāṃ rātrim ॥
Whatever evil dreams have come then and then again, that and that again, what at night, whatever the night before.
16.7.10
यज् जाग्रद् यत् सुप्तो यद् दिवा यन् नक्तम् ॥
yaj jāgrad yat supto yad divā yan naktam ॥
Whatever while awake, whatever when asleep, whatever in the day, whatever at night.
16.7.11
यद् अहरहर् अभिगछामि तस्माद् एनम् अव दये ॥
yad aharahar abhigachāmi tasmād enam ava daye ॥
Whatever the dream I suffer day by day, of all that, I cleanse this mind and soul.
16.7.12
तं जहि तेन मन्दस्व तस्य पृष्टीर् अपि शृणीहि ॥
taṃ jahi tena mandasva tasya pṛṣṭīr api śṛṇīhi ॥
16.7.13
स मा जीवीत् तं प्राणो जहातु ॥
sa mā jīvīt taṃ prāṇo jahātu ॥
Sūkta 8
Atharvaveda 16.8 · 27 mantras
16.8.1
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजस् अस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ॥
jitam asmākam udbhinnam asmākam ṛtam asmākaṃ tejas asmākaṃ brahmāsmākaṃ svar asmākaṃ yajño 'smākaṃ paśavo 'smākaṃ prajā asmākaṃ vīrā asmākam ॥
We have conquered, we have won. What we have won back is ours. What is broke open and discovered and recovered is ours. Rtam, the Law and truth is ours, splendour and glory is ours, Veda, knowledge is ours, Svah and heavenly joy is ours, yajna is ours, wealth and cattle is ours, the people are ours, the brave heroes are our own.
16.8.2
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ।
तस्माद् अमुं निर् भजामो ऽमुम् आमुष्यायणम् अमुष्याः पुत्रम् असौ यः ।
स निरृत्याः पाशान् मा मोचि ॥
jitam asmākam udbhinnam asmākam ṛtam asmākaṃ tejo 'smākaṃ brahmāsmākaṃ svar asmākaṃ yajño 'smākaṃ paśavo 'smākaṃ prajā asmākaṃ vīrā asmākam ।
tasmād amuṃ nir bhajāmo 'mum āmuṣyāyaṇam amuṣyāḥ putram asau yaḥ ।
sa nirṛtyāḥ pāśān mā moci ॥
For this reason now, from all that was ours, which we have won back, we alienate that evil dreamer, who is son of such and such father and of such and such mother.
16.8.3
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ।

tasmād amuṃ nir bhajāmo 'mum āmuṣyāyaṇam amuṣyāḥ putram asau yaḥ ।
so 'bhūtyāḥ pāśān mā moci ॥
What we have won is ours, what we have recovered is ours. Law and truth is ours, splendour is ours, Vedic knowledge is ours, heavenly joy is ours, yajna is ours, wealth and cattle is ours, the people are ours, the brave heroes are ours. For this reason now, from all that was ours, which we have won back, we alienate that evil dreamer who is son of such and such father and of such and such mother. Let him never be free from the snares of adversity. And here now I arrest and freeze his honour, lustre, pranic energy and his life and age, and thus I place him down at the lowest.
16.8.4
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ।
तस्माद् अमुं निर् भजामो ऽमुम् आमुष्यायणम् अमुष्याः पुत्रम् असौ यः ।
स निर्भूत्याः पाशान् मा मोचि ॥

so 'horātrayoḥ pāśān mā moci ॥
What is won is ours, what is recovered is ours. Truth and law is ours, splendour is ours, Brahma is ours, peace and joy is ours, yajna is ours, wealth and cattle is ours, people are ours, brave heroes are ours. For this reason now, from all that, we alienate that evil dreamer who is the son of such and such father and such and such mother. Let him never be free from the bonds and fetters of the day-night cycle. And here now I arrest and freeze his honour, lustre, pranic energy, and his life and age, and thus I place him down at the lowest.
16.8.22
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ।

And here now I arrest and freeze his honour, lustre, pranic energy, and his life and age, and thus I place him down at the lowest.

And here now I arrest and freeze his honour, lustre, pranic energy, and life and age, and thus I put him down at the lowest.
16.8.26
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ।

स राज्ञो वरुणस्य पाशान् मा मोचि ॥

What is won is ours, what is uncovered and recovered is ours, Rtam, universal truth and law is ours, splendour and brilliance is ours, Brahma, universal knowledge of the Veda, is ours, Svah, universal peace and divine joy is ours, yajna is ours, wealth and cattle is ours, people are ours, heroic brave are ours. For this reason now, from all that, we alienate that dreamer of evil dreams who is the son of such and such father and such and such mother. Let him never be released from the bonds and chains of the law of ruling Varuna, enlightened ruler of the world. And here now I arrest, delimit and freeze his honour and lustre, pranic energy, and life and age, and thus I put him down at the lowest.
16.8.27
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् ऋतम् अस्माकं तेजो ऽस्माकं ब्रह्मास्माकं स्वर् अस्माकं यज्ञो ऽस्माकं पशवो ऽस्माकं प्रजा अस्माकं वीरा अस्माकम् ॥

What we have conquered from the external and internal enemy is ours. Whatever is broke open, discovered and recovered is ours. The splendour and glory is ours. Brahma, universal knowledge of the Veda, is ours. Svah, heavenly light, peace and joy is ours. Yajna, creative action, freedom of assembly and freedom of contribution is ours. Wealth and cattle, all is ours. The people are ours. The heroic brave are ours.

16.9.1
जितम् अस्माकम् उद्भिन्नम् अस्माकम् अभ्य् अष्ठां विश्वाः पृतना अरातीः ॥
jitam asmākam udbhinnam asmākam abhy aṣṭhāṃ viśvāḥ pṛtanā arātīḥ ॥
What we have won is ours. What is broke open, uncovered and recovered is ours. I have won all battles and frustrated all enemy’s hostile tactics.
16.9.2
तद् अग्निर् आह तद् उ सोम आह पूषा मा धात् सुकृतस्य लोके ॥
tad agnir āha tad u soma āha pūṣā mā dhāt sukṛtasya loke ॥
This is what Agni, lord of light and fire of life, said, this is what Soma, lord of peace and universal happiness, said for me: “May Pusha, lord of life and nourishment, bless you”. I pray: May Pusha establish me in the world of noble action and blessed joy.
16.9.3
अगन्म स्वः स्वर् अगन्म सं सूर्यस्य ज्योतिषागन्म ॥
aganma svaḥ svar aganma saṃ sūryasya jyotiṣāganma ॥
Let us rise to heavenly light and joy. We have risen to heavenly light and divine bliss. We have risen and have joined with the light of the Sun.
16.9.4
वस्योभूयाय वसुमान् यज्ञो वसु वंसिषीय वसुमान् भूयासं वसु मयि धेहि ॥
vasyobhūyāya vasumān yajño vasu vaṃsiṣīya vasumān bhūyāsaṃ vasu mayi dhehi ॥
Yajna is the way to rise in honour, wealth and excellence. Yajna is the treasure hold of wealth, honour and excellence. Let me have the ambition and effort with competence to win wealth and excellence. I pray I may be blest with wealth, honour and excellence. O lord of wealth and excellence, raise and establish me in abundance and prosperity of the wealth of life.
