Invocation (Dhyana Shloka & Shanti Mantra)

Sanskrit:

श्रीमन्नारायणाकारमष्टाक्षरमहाशयम् । स्वमात्रानुभवात्सिद्धमात्मबोधं हरिं भजे ॥

ॐ वाङ्मे मनसीति शान्तिः ॥


Transliteration:

śrīmannārāyaṇākāramaṣṭākṣaramahāśayam । svamātrānubhavātsiddhamātmabodhaṃ hariṃ bhaje ॥

oṃ vāṅme manasīti śāntiḥ ॥

Sutra 1

Sanskrit:

ॐ प्रत्यगानन्दं ब्रह्मपुरुषं प्रणवस्वरूपं अकारो उकार मकार इति त्र्यक्षरं प्रणवं तदेतदोमिति । यमुक्त्वा मुच्यते योगी जन्मसंसारबन्धनात् । ॐ नमोनारायणाय शङ्खचक्रगदाधराय तस्मात् ॐ नमो नारायणायेति मन्त्रोपासको वैकुण्ठभवनं गमिष्यति । ॥ १॥


Transliteration:

oṃ pratyagānandaṃ brahmapuruṣaṃ praṇavasvarūpaṃ akāro ukāra makāra iti tryakṣaraṃ praṇavaṃ tadetadomiti । yamuktvā mucyate yogī janmasaṃsārabandhanāt । oṃ namonārāyaṇāya śaṅkhacakragadādharāya tasmāt oṃ namo nārāyaṇāyeti mantropāsako vaikuṇṭhabhavanaṃ gamiṣyati । ॥ 1॥


Hindi Translation:

स्वयं अपने आप में आनन्द स्वरूप विराट् ब्रह्म पुरुष 'अकार-उकार-मकार' से युक्त यह तीन अक्षरों वाला ॐकार रूप प्रणव का स्वरूप है। इसका जप करने से योगीजन सांसारिक बन्धनों से मुक्त हो जाते हैं। शंख, चक्र एवं गदा को धारण करने वाले परमात्मा स्वरूप नारायण के लिए नमस्कार है। 'ॐ नमो नारायणाय' नामक इस मन्त्र की उपासना करने वाला मनुष्य वैकुण्ठ धाम को प्राप्त करता है॥१॥


English Translation (Dr. A.G. Krishna Warrier):

The innermost Brahman is A, U, M - saying this a Yogi becomes free from the cycle of birth. Om, I bow to Narayana, having Sankha, Chakra and Gada. The upasaka will go to Vaikuntha.

Sutra 2

Sanskrit:

अथ यदिदं ब्रह्मपुरं पुण्डरीकं तस्मात्तडिदाभमानं दीपवत्प्रकाशम्॥२॥


Transliteration:

atha yadidaṃ brahmapuraṃ puṇḍarīkaṃ tasmāttaḍidābhamānaṃ dīpavatprakāśam॥2॥


Hindi Translation:

जो यह हृदय रूपी कमल है, वही ब्रह्मपुर है। केवल अकेला वही क्षेत्र विद्युत् अथवा दीपक के सदृश प्रकाशमान होता है॥२॥ [आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से भी हृदय क्षेत्र में दिव्य प्रकाश का बोध होता है तथा शरीर विज्ञान के अनुसार पेसमेकर' में भी हृदय को संचालित करने वाले स्पन्दन स्वतः ही उभरते रहते हैं। इन्हीं काय विद्युत् स्पन्दनों का अंकन ई.सी. जी. आदि यन्त्र करते हैं।

The Brahmapura is a lotus, shining like lightning and lamp. The son of Devaki is Brahmanya (a Brahmana with 44 sacraments); so are Madhusudana, Pundarikaksha, Vishnu and Achyuta. Narayana is the one, existing in all creatures, the causal person without a cause.

Sutra 3

Sanskrit:

ब्रह्मण्यो देवकीपुत्रो ब्रह्मण्यो मधुसूदनः। ब्रह्मण्यः पुण्डरीकाक्षो ब्रह्मण्यो विष्णुरच्युतः॥३॥


Transliteration:

brahmaṇyo devakīputro brahmaṇyo madhusūdanaḥ। brahmaṇyaḥ puṇḍarīkākṣo brahmaṇyo viṣṇuracyutaḥ॥3॥


Hindi Translation:

देवकी पुत्र भगवान् कृष्ण ब्राह्मणों का हित चाहने वाले हैं, (वे) मधुसूदन ब्राह्मणों का सदा हित करने वाले हैं, कमल के सदृश नेत्र वाले भगवान् विष्णु ब्राह्मणों के शुभचिन्तक हैं तथा वे अविनाशी भगवान् अच्युत ब्राह्मणों के प्रिय हैं॥३॥

Sutra 5

Sanskrit:

शोकमोहविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुं ध्यायन्न सीदति । द्वैताद्वैतमभयं भवति । मृत्योः स मृत्युमाप्नोति य इह नानेव पश्यति ॥५॥


Transliteration:

śokamohavinirmukto viṣṇuṃ dhyāyanna sīdati । dvaitādvaitamabhayaṃ bhavati । mṛtyoḥ sa mṛtyumāpnoti ya iha nāneva paśyati ॥5॥


English Translation (Dr. A.G. Krishna Warrier):

One does not suffer meditating upon Vishnu without misery and illusion - there is no fear; one who sees many here goes from death to death.

Sutra 6

Sanskrit:

हृत्पद्ममध्ये सर्वं यत्तत्प्रज्ञाने प्रतिष्ठितम् । प्रज्ञानेत्रो लोकः प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठा प्रज्ञानं ब्रह्म ॥६॥


Transliteration:

hṛtpadmamadhye sarvaṃ yattatprajñāne pratiṣṭhitam । prajñānetro lokaḥ prajñā pratiṣṭhā prajñānaṃ brahma ॥6॥


English Translation (Dr. A.G. Krishna Warrier):

In the middle of the heart-lotus It (Brahman) exists with knowledge as the eye; the world, knowledge are established in Brahman. He, the seeker, departs from this world with this knowledge, getting all desires in the other world becomes immortal. Where there is always light and value, there the person attains immortality - Om Namah.

Sutra 7

Sanskrit:

स एतेन प्रज्ञेनात्मनास्माल्लोकादुत्क्रम्यामुष्मिन्स्वर्गे लोके सर्वान्कामानाप्त्वाऽमृतः समभवदमृतः समभवत् ॥७॥


Transliteration:

sa etena prajñenātmanāsmāllokādutkramyāmuṣminsvarge loke sarvānkāmānāptvā'mṛtaḥ samabhavadamṛtaḥ samabhavat ॥7॥

यत्र ज्योतिरजस्रं यस्मिंल्लोकेऽभ्यर्हितम् । तस्मिन्मां देहि स्वमानमृते लोके अक्षते अच्युते लोके अक्षते अमृतत्वं च गच्छत्यों नमः ॥८॥


Transliteration:

yatra jyotirajasraṃ yasmiṃlloke'bhyarhitam । tasminmāṃ dehi svamānamṛte loke akṣate acyute loke akṣate amṛtatvaṃ ca gacchatyoṃ namaḥ ॥8॥

In the middle of the heart-lotus It (Brahman) exists with knowledge as the eye; the world, knowledge are established in Brahman. He, the seeker, departs from this world with this knowledge, getting all desires in the other world becomes immortal.
