अथातः सामयाचारिकान्धर्मान्व्याख्यास्यामः ।1

1 And now we shall explain the accepted customary Laws. [A 1.1.1]

Vasiṣṭha

अथातः पुरुषनिःश्रेयसार्थं धर्मजिज्ञासा ।1 ज्ञात्वा चानुतिष्ठन्धार्मिकः ।2 प्रशस्यतमो भवति लोके प्रेत्य च स्वर्गलोकं समश्नुते ।3

1 Next comes the desire to know the Law for the sake of attaining the highest goal of man. 2 Now, someone who knows the Law and follows it is a righteous man. 3 Such a man becomes pre-eminent in this world and wins heaven after death. [Va 1.1-3]
