The Mayamatam, the Vāstu Śāstra attributed to the sage Maya — one of the two principal South Indian treatises on architecture, town planning, iconography and the building of temples and houses. It covers the examination and taking of a site, units of measure, the placing of the gnomon, the layout of villages and cities, foundations, plinths, pillars, superstructures and towers, single- through multi-storeyed buildings, gateways, pavilions, royal palaces, doors, vehicles and couches, and the making of liṅgas and images.
