The Three Eyes.

சிவபெருமான் திரிநேத்திரங் கொண்டது, சூரியன், சந்தி ரன், அக்கினி என்னும் முச்சுடர்களையும் அதிட்டிக்கின்றவர்

The fact that Lord Shiva possesses three eyes indicates that He presides over the three lights known as the sun, the moon, and fire.

தாமென்பதை உணர்த்துவதற்காகும். * “சுடர் மூன்றுங் கண்மூன்றாக் கொண்டான்றான் காண்” என்பது தேவாரம். $ முதல்வி உளமகிழ்ச்சியினால் முதல்வனாரது திருக்கண் புதைத்த திருவிளையாட்டின்கண் எவ்விடத்து மிருள் பரந்து மூடவும், இறைவர் உலகத்திலுள்ளார்க்கு நெற்றிக்கண்ணால் ஒளியைத் தந்தருளிய தன்மையினால், உலகத்திலுள்ள ஒளிக ளெல்லாம் அவரது திருமேனிப் பிரகாசமேயாம்.

to signify that He is the Self. * “Behold, He possesses the three luminaries as His three eyes” is a verse from the Tevaram. $ In the divine sport in which the Lord’s consort, out of joy in her heart, playfully covered the Lord’s sacred eyes, darkness spread and enveloped everything. Because the Lord then graciously bestowed light upon the beings of the world through His eye on the forehead, all the lights in the world are but the radiance of His divine body.

நாயகன் கண்ண யப்பா னாபகி புதைப்ப வெங்கும் பாயிரு ளாகி மூடப் பரிந்துல கினுக்கு நெற்றித் தூயலேத் திரத்தி னாலே சுடலொளி கொடுத்த பண்பிற் றேயமா ரொளிக ளெல்லாஞ் சிவனுருக் தேச தென்னார்.

When the Lord’s consort playfully covered the eyes of the Master, darkness spread everywhere and enveloped all things; because He graciously gave the world the light of the sun through the pure eye on His forehead, the learned declare that all the lights in the world are the radiance of Shiva’s form.

மூன்று திருக்கண்களையு முதல்வன் கொண்டது காருக பத்தியம், ஆகவனீயம், தட்சிணாக்கினி என்னும் முத்தீவேள் வியில் அவை யாவும் தம்மிடத்திலே பொருந்தியுள்ளன என் பதையும், இச்சாசத்தி, ஞானசத்தி, கிரியாசத்திகளை யுடைய வர் தாம் என்பதையும் உணர்த்துவதற்காம் என்றும் உண்மை நூல்கள் கூறுகின்றன.

Authoritative scriptures state that the Lord possesses three sacred eyes to signify that the three sacred fires— Garhapatya, Ahavaniya, and Dakshinagni—are all united in Him, and also to indicate that He possesses the powers of will, knowledge, and action.
