Verse १
svabhāvameke kavayo vadanti kālaṁ tathānye parimuhyamānāḥ |devasyaiṣa mahimā tu loke yenedaṁ bhrāmyate brahmacakram ||
'Tis Nature and Self -existence, say one school of the Seers. Nay, 'tis Time, say another; both are deceived and bewildered. 'Tis the Majesty of the Lord in the world of His creatures whereby the Wheel of the Eternal whirleth about continually. 1: Some deluded thinkers speak of Nature, and others of time, as the force that revolves this wheel of Brahman. But really all this is only the glory of God manifested in the world.
Verse २
yenāvṛtaṁ nityamidaṁ hi sarvaṁ jñaḥ kālakāro guṇī sarvavidyaḥ |teneśitaṁ karma vivartate ha pṛthivyaptejoṁilakhāni cintyam ||
He envelopeth this whole Universe with Himself for ever,He that knoweth, Maker of Time,&the Modes ofNature dwell in Him; yea, all things He discerneth and by His governance the Law ofWorks revolveth in its cycle. Earth, water, fire, air, ether, of these thou shalt consider (as the substance wherein it turneth). VI-2: It should be known that energy assumes various forms such as earth, water, light, air and ether at the command of Him who is the master of Gunas and the maker of time, who is omniscient, who is Pure consciousness itself, and by whom all this is ever enveloped.
Verse ३
tatkarma kṛtvā vinivartya bhūyastattvasya tattvena sametya yogam |ekena dvābhyāṁ tribhiraṣṭabhirvā kālena caivātmaguṇaiśca sūkṣmaiḥ ||
The Lord doeth works and resteth again from His works, one or two or three or eight He yoketh Himself with the Principle of things in their essence & with Time He yoketh Himself and with Self in its subtle workings. VI-3: After setting the creation in motion and withdrawing Himself from it, He unites the principle of Spirit with the principle of Matter - with one, with two, with three and with eight - through the mere instrumentality of time and their own inherent properties.
Verse ४
ārabhya karmāṇi guṇānvitāni bhāvāṁśca sarvānviniyojayedyaḥ |teṣāmabhāve kṛtakarmanāśaḥ karmakṣaye yāti sa tattvato'nyaḥ ||
So He beginneth works, that are subject to the modes of Nature, and setteth all existences to their workings:&when these things are not, thereby cometh annihilation of work that hath been done; and with the perishing of work, He departeth out of them; for in His final truth He is other than they. VI-4: He gives the start to the creation associated with the three Gunas of Nature, and others all things. Again, in the absence of the Gunas, He destroys all created objects, and after destruction, remains aloof in His essence.
Verse ५
ādiḥ sa saṁyoganimittahetuḥ parastrikālādakalo'pi dṛṣṭaḥ |taṁ viśvarūpaṁ bhavabhūtamīḍyaṁ devaṁ svacittasthamupāsya pūrvam ||
Lo we have beheld Him & He is the Beginning and the Cause of all Causes whereby these elements meet together & form ariseth; the past, the present and the future are this side of Him and Time hath no part in Him. Let us worship the Ancient of Days in our own hearts who sitteth. Let us wait upon God who must be adored, for the world is His shape and the Universe is but His becoming. VI-5: By previously meditating as seated in one's own heart, on that Adorable Being who appears as the universe, and who is the true source of all creatures, He can be perceived even though He is the primeval cause of the union (of Spirit with Matter), as well as the partless entity transcending the three divisions of time.
Verse ६
sa vṛkṣakālākṛtibhiḥ paro'nyo yasmātprapañcaḥ parivartate'yam |dharmāvahaṁ pāpanudaṁ bhageśaṁ jñātvātmasthamamṛtaṁ viśvadhāma ||
Time & Form and the Tree of Things, none of these is He for He is more than they & it is from Him that this Cosmos beginneth. We will know this Master of grace & glory for He cometh to us carrying righteousness in His hand & He driveth Sin from its strong places. We will know Him for He is in our Self & immortal & the World's foundation. VI-6: Knowing Him who is the origin and dissolution of the universe - the source of all virtue, the destroyer of all sins, the master of all good qualities, the immortal, and the abode of the universe - as seated in one's own self, He is perceived as different from, and transcending, the tree of Samsara as well as time and form.
Verse ७
tamīśvarāṇāṁ paramaṁ maheśvaraṁ taṁ devatānāṁ paramaṁ ca daivatam |patiṁ patīnāṁ paramaṁ parastādvidāma devaṁ bhuvaneśamīḍyam ||
We will know this Mightiest one who is far above all the mighty-this summit of the gods & their godhead, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who towereth high above all summits & greatnesses. Let us learn of God for He is this World's Master & all shall adore Him. VI-7: May we realize Him - the transcendent and adorable master of the universe - who is the supreme lord over all the lords, the supreme God above all the gods, and the supreme ruler over all the rulers.
Verse ८
na tasya kāryaṁ karaṇaṁ ca vidyate na tatsamaścābhyadhikaśca dṛśyate |parāsya śaktirvividhaiva śrūyate svābhāvikī jñānabalakriyā ca ||
God needeth not to do anything neither hath He any organ of doing; there is none greater than He nor do we see any that is His equal-for His power is far over all, only men hear of it under a thousand names & various, ashions. Lo the strength of Him and the works of Him and His Knowledge, they are self-efficient & their own cause & nature. VI-8: His has nothing to achieve for Himself, nor has He any organ of action. No one is seen equal or superior to Him. His great power alone is described in the Vedas to be of various kinds, and His knowledge, strength and action are described as inherent in Him.
Verse ९
He hath no master in all this world, there is none that shall rule over Him. Nor feature nor distinction hath He; for He is begetting cause and sovran over the lords of these natural organs, but Himself hath no begetter neither any sovran. VI-9: No one in the world is His master, nor has anybody any control over Him. There is no sign by which He can be inferred. He is the cause of all, and the ruler of individual souls. He has no parent, nor is there any one who is His lord.
Verse
yasturṇanābha iva tantubhiḥ pradhānajaiḥ svabhāvataḥ |deva ekaḥ svamāvṛṇoti sa no dadhātdbrahmāpyayam ||
Even as is the spider that out of himself fashioneth his own web, so is God One & nought else existeth but by his own nature covereth Himself up in the threads He hath spun out of primal matter. May the One God ordain unto us departure into His Eternal. VI-10: May the Supreme Being, who spontaneously covers Himself with the products of Nature, just as a spider does with the threads drawn from its own navel, grant us absorption in Brahman!
Verse
eko devaḥ sarvabhūteṣu gūḍhaḥ sarvavyāpī sarvabhūtāntarātmā|karmādhyakṣaḥ sarvabhūtādhivāsaḥ sākṣī cetā kevalo nirguṇaśca ||
One God who alone is & He lurketh hidden in every creature for He pervadeth and is the inmost Self of all beings, He presideth over all work and is the home of all things living. He is the Mighty Witness who relateth thought with thought and again He is the Absolute in whom mood is not nor any attribute. VI-11: God, who is one only, is hidden in all beings. He is all-pervading, and is the inner self of all creatures. He presides over all actions, and all beings reside in Him. He is the witness, and He is the Pure Consciousness free from the three Gunas of Nature.
Verse
eko vaśī niṣkriyāṇāṁ bahūnāmekaṁ bījaṁ bahudhā yaḥ karoti |tamātmasthaṁ ye'nupaśyanti dhīrāsteṣāṁ sukhaṁ śāśvataṁ netareṣām ||
One God&alone He controlleth the many who have themselves no separate work nor purpose; andHe developeth one seed into many kinds of creatures; the strong-hearted behold God in their own Self, therefore for them is everlasting bliss and not for others. VI-12: Those wise men, who ever feel in their own hearts the presence of Him who is the one ruler of the inactive many, and who makes the one seed manifold - to them belongs eternal happiness, and to none else.
Verse
nityo nityānāṁ cetanaścetanānāmeko bahūnāṁ yo vidadhāti kāmān |tatkāraṇaṁ sāṁkhyayogādhigamyaṁ jñātvā devaṁ mucyate sarvapāśaiḥ ||
One Eternal of all these that pass & are not, One conscious in all consciousnesses; He being One ordereth the desires of many; He alone is the great Source to which Sankhya and Yoga bring us. If thou know God thou shalt break free from every sort of bondage. VI-13: He is the eternal among the eternal and the intelligent among all that are intelligent. Though one, He grants the desires of the many. One is released from all fetters on realizing Him, the cause of all, who is comprehensible through philosophy and religious discipline.
Verse १४

There the sun cannot shine and the moon has no splendour; the stars are blind; there our lightnings flash not neither any earthly fire; all that is bright is but the shadow of His brightness and by His shining all this shineth. VI-14: The sun does not shine there; neither the moon, nor the stars. There these lightnings shine not - how then this fire? Because He shines, everything shines after Him. By His light all this shines.
Verse १५

One Swan of Being in the heart of all this Universe & He is Fire that lieth deep in the heart of water. By Knowledge of Him, the soul passeth beyond the pursuit of Death and there is no other road for the great passage. VI-15: The one destroyer of ignorance in the midst of this universe, He alone is the fire which is stationed in water. Realizing Him alone one overcomes death. There is no other path for emancipatio
Verse १६

He hath made all and knoweth all; forHe is the womb out of which Self ariseth, & being possessed of the Nature Moods He becometh Time's Maker and discerneth all things. And Matter is subject to Him & the Spirit inMan that cogniseth His field of matter & the modes of Nature are His servants. He therefore is the cause of this coming into phenomena & of the release from phenomena-&because of Him is their endurance & because of Him is their bondage. VI-16: He is the creator of everything as well as the knower of everything. He is His own source, He is all-knowing, and He is the destroyer of time. He is the repository of all good qualities, and the master of all sciences. He is the controller of Matter and Spirit, and the lord of the Gunas. He is the cause of liberation from the cycle of birth and death, and of bondage which results in its continuance.
Verse १७

Lo He is Immortal because He is utter existence; but He houseth Himself in the Lord & is the Knower, the Omnipresent that standeth on guard over this His universe, yea He ruleth all this moving world for ever and for ever, and there is no other source of lordship and kingliness. VI-17: He is the soul of the universe, He is immortal, and His is the rulership. He is the all knowing, the all-pervading, the protector of the universe, the eternal ruler. None else is there efficient to govern the world eternally.
Verse १८

He ordained Brahma the Creator from of old and sent forth unto him the Veda, I will hasten unto God who standeth self-revealed in the Spirit & in the Understanding. I will take refuge in the Lord for my salvation;Who hath neither parts nor works for He is utterly tranquil, faultless, stainless, therefore He is the one great bridge that carrieth us over to Immortality, even as when a fire hath burnt all its fuel. VI-18-19: He who at the beginning of creation projected Brahma (Universal Consciousness), who delivered the Vedas unto him, who constitutes the supreme bridge of immortality, who is the partless, free from actions, tranquil, faultless, taintless and resembles the fire that has consumed its fuel - seeking liberation I go for refuge to that Effulgent One, whose light turns the understanding towards the Atman.
Verse १९

When the sons of men shall fold up ether like a skin and wrap the heavens round them like a garment, then alone without knowledge of the Lord our God shall the misery of the World have an ending. I-20: Only when men shall roll up the sky like a skin, will there be an end of misery for them without realizing God.

By the might of his devotion&the grace of God in his being Svetasvatara hereafter knew the Eternal & he came to therenouncers of the worldly life and truly declared unto them the Most High & Pure God, to whom the companies of seers resort for ever. VI-21: Himself realizing Brahman by the power of self-control and concentration of mind, as well as by the grace of God, the sage Svetasvatara expounded well to the highest order of Sannyasins, the truth of that supremely holy Brahman resorted to by all the seers.

This is the great secret of the Vedanta which was declared in former times, not on hearts untranquilled to be squandered nor men sonless nor on one who hath no disciples. VI-22: This highest mysticism, expounded in the Vedanta in a former age, should not be taught to one whose passions have not been subdued, nor to one who is not a worthy son, nor to an unworthy disciple.
