The Caraka Saṃhitā, the foundational text of Āyurveda and the first of the Bṛhat-trayī. Composed by Agniveśa and redacted by Caraka, its eight sthānas treat the principles of medicine, diagnosis, pathology, therapeutics, pharmacy and the training of the physician, and set out the doctrine of the three doṣas and the aims of a healthy life.
