The Mānasāra, the most comprehensive of the Sanskrit Vāstu Śāstras and the companion to the Mayamatam — the classical Hindu science of architecture, town planning, sculpture and iconography. It treats the qualifications of the śilpin, systems of measurement, the examination of ground, the placing of deities, the layout of villages, towns and forts, foundations and plinths, pillars and entablature, buildings of one to twelve storeys, enclosures, gateways and pavilions, palaces, thrones and vehicles, and the canons of proportion for images of the deities.
