Plastering the Temple Floor

திருக்கோயிற்றரையைச் சுத்தமான பசுவின் சாணி கொண்டு மெழுகுதல் வேண்டும். கற்படுத்த நிலத்தைச் சலத் தினால் அலம்பிவிடுதல் வேண்டும். பசுவின் சாணிகொண்டு மெழுகுதலால், பூகப் பிரேத பைசாச தோஷங்களும், அசுத்தவாயு துர்நாற்றம் முதலிய தோஷங்களும் நீங்குவதே யன்றித் தரையானது உலர்ந்து பரிசுத்தமாய் இருப்போ ருக்கு மனோகரமும், இலட்சுமீகரமும், சாத்துவிக குணமுந் தருமென்பது துணிபு. இத் திருத்தொண்டின் சிறப்புத் திலகவதியார் நியதியாகச் செய்து முத்தியடைந்த சரித்திரத் தாலினிது விளங்கும்.

The temple floor should be plastered with the dung of a clean cow. The prepared ground should be washed with water. It is certain that plastering with cow dung not only removes the impurities caused by ghosts, corpses, evil spirits, and demons, as well as foul air, bad odors, and the like, but also leaves the floor dry and pure, making it pleasing and auspicious to those who see it and imparting sattvic qualities. The excellence of this sacred service is beautifully illustrated by the history of Tilakavatiyar, who performed it regularly and attained liberation.
