Lighting the Sacred Lamp

திருச் சந்நிதானத்திலே தீபமேற்றுபவர்களும், தீபத் துக்கு நெய் கொடுப்பவர்களும் பாவம் நீங்கி உண்மைஞான விளக்கம் பெற்றுச் சிவபெருமானுடைய திருவடியை அடை வார்கள். திருவிளக்கிடுதலாகிய சிவபுண்ணியத்தின் மகி மையை நமிநந்தியடிகள் சரித்திரத்தால் உணர்ந்து அனுட் டித்துக் கடைத்தேறக்கடவர்.

Those who light lamps before the sacred presence, and those who provide ghee for the lamps, will be freed from sin, attain the illumination of true knowledge, and reach the sacred feet of Lord Shiva. The greatness of this meritorious Shaiva act of lighting sacred lamps should be understood from the life of Naminandi Adigal, practiced, and thereby brought to fulfillment.

பெரும்புலர் காலைமூழ்கிப் பித்தர்க்குப் பத்தானி அரும்பொடு மலர்கள் கொண்டாங் கார்வத்தை யுள்ளேவைத்து விரும்பிநல் விளக்குத்தூபம் விதியினா லிடவல்லார்க்குக் கரும்பினிற் கட்டிபோல்வார் கடவூர்வீ ரட்டனாரே.

Those who, having bathed in the early morning, gather fresh flowers and tender buds for the mad Lord, place them within the temple with devotion, and lovingly offer good lamps and incense according to prescribed rites—such devotees are as sweet as sugarcane candy to the Lord of Kaduvur Veerattam.

" நிலைபெறுமா றெண்ணுதியே னெஞ்சே நீவா நித்தலுமெம் பிரானுடைய கோயில் புக்குப் புலர்வதன்முன் னலகிட்டு மெழுத்கு மிட்டுப் பூமாலை புனைந்தேத்திப் புகழ்ந்து பாடித் தலையாரக் கும்பிட்டுக் கூத்து மாடிச் சங்கரா சயபோற்றி போற்றி யென்றும் அலைபுனல்சேர் செஞ்சடையெம் மாதீ யென்று மாரூரா என்றென்றே அலறா நில்லே."

“I have pondered how to remain steadfast, O my heart; come, let us go every day to the temple of our Lord before dawn, sweep and clean it, apply sacred ash, adorn it with flower garlands, praise and sing, bow our heads in worship, dance, and cry out, ‘Sankara! Victory, victory!’ and, ‘O our Lord with red matted locks adorned with surging waters!’ Do not cease crying out, O Marurā!”

விளக்கினார் பெற்றவின்ப மெழுக்கினாற் பதிற்றியாகும் துளக்கினன் மலர் தாடுத்தாற் அரயவிண் ணேறலாகும் விளக்கிட்டார் பேறுசொல்லின் மெய்ந்தெறி ஞானமாகும். அளப்பில கீ கஞ்சொன்னார்க் கடிகடா மருளுமாறே.

The bliss gained by lighting a lamp increases tenfold; by offering flowers at His sacred feet, one ascends to the celestial realm; if one speaks of the merit of those who light lamps, it becomes true, righteous wisdom. The immeasurable Lord grants His grace even to those who utter but a little praise.
