The Nature of Those Established in Gnosis,
Passage 2
Just as fire manifests and shines forth when the sun’s radiance falls upon a sunstone, so, merely through the presence of the preceptor of gnosis, Śiva-jñāna manifests and shines forth in mature souls. Consequently, the characteristics of Pati, pasu, and pāśa, and the manner in which Pati remains united with the insentient and sentient entities, become clearly manifested in the soul’s consciousness. When the intense descent of Śakti takes place, their knowledge matures, and, through the grace of the Guru, those who have attained *niṭṭai become liberated while still living. Free from likes and dislikes, they regard a potsherd and gold with equal understanding, remain inseparably united with Śaṅkara, and behold nothing but the manifestation of Śiva. Upon the dissolution of the body, they attain supreme liberation of the same nature as Paramasiva: †
Passage 3
For one established in gnosis, there are neither prescribed duties nor karma.
Passage 4
For those established in true knowledge, there are no good or evil deeds, nor the fruits of such deeds, in this world. Even if they perform actions, they have no desired result in mind. They are not bound by any prescribed religious conduct; nor is there any austerity they must perform. They have no vows or stages-of-life duties to observe, no meditative practices to contemplate in the mind, no bonds to reflect upon, no external marks to display on the body, and no sense of distinction perceived through the senses. They have no attachment to objects of the inner faculties that must be removed, no qualities that need to be restrained, no particular goal at which they must remain steadfast, and no caste customs that they must follow. Like children, the insane, or those possessed by spirits, they may, through an excess of bliss, engage in singing, dancing, and similar activities. Having an equal experience of both kinds of deeds, whatever actions they may perform, they never depart from the sacred feet of Lord Shiva.
Passage 5
Those endowed with knowledge of Shiva do not abandon Chariya, Kriya, and the like, thinking that they need not undertake them; nor do they perform them by forming the resolve that they must continue doing so. Just as an object slips away unnoticed from the hand of one who is asleep, all such practices as Chariya and the like withdraw from them of their own accord. Only those of deluded knowledge deliberately cast them aside.
Passage 6
Those who stand beneath the flower-like feet
