Their types and states.

தடாகத்திலுள்ள பாசியானது கல்லினை மேலும் மேலும் எறியும்பொழுது நீங்கி, கல்லெறியாது விடும்பொழுது வந்து நீரை மூடிக்கொள்வது போல, பாசமும் சிவபெருமானது திரு வடியைத் தியானிக்கும் பொழுது நீங்கி, விடுத்த விடத்து ஆன் மாவைப் பொருந்தும். இடையறாத அன்போடும் சிவத்தைப் பொருக்தி மலரடிக் கீழ் நீங்காத நிட்டையாளருக்கு ஒரு போதும் அதுவந்து அடையாது. அவ்வாறன்றிச் சிவத்தின் மாட்டும் கருவிகளின் மாட்டும் விருப்புற்றுச் சுழல்வோர் மல வாதனையைப் போக்கும் நெறியைச் சிவாகமங்களிற் கூறிய படி கூறுவாம்.

Just as the moss in a pond is pushed aside when stones are thrown into it again and again, but returns to cover the water when the throwing of stones ceases, so too the bonds recede while one meditates on the sacred feet of Lord Shiva, but cling to the soul when that practice is abandoned. They never approach those steadfast devotees who, with uninterrupted love, remain united with Shiva beneath His flower-like feet. For those who, instead, continue to wander with attachment to Shiva and to the instruments, we shall explain, as taught in the Shaiva Agamas, the path that removes the affliction caused by the impurities.
