மகா ருத்திராரகிய பரமசிவனாருடைய திருக்கண்களில் தோன்றினமையால் உருத்திராக்ஷம் எனப் பெயர் பெற் றது. தேவர்கள் திரிபுரத்தசுராலே தங்களுக்கு நிகழ்ந்த துன்பத்தை விண்ணப்பஞ் செய்துகொண்டபொழுது, திருக் கைலாசபதி கருண மிகுதியால் மூன்று திருக்கண்களையும் மலர்த்திக்கொண்டிருப்ப, அவற்றினின்று நீர்த்துளிகள் பூமி யில் விழுந்தன. எவர்களுக்கும் அநுக்கிரகிக்குமாறு அவை கள் உருத்திராக்ஷங்களாயின. அரனாரது ஆஞ்ஞைப்படி வித்தியேசுரர் முதலியோரும் அரி அயன் முதலிய அமரர் களும் முனிவராதியரும் அவைகளைத் தரித்து அருள் பெற் றனர்.

Because it originated in the sacred eyes of Paramaśiva, the great Rudra, it came to be called Rudrākṣa . When the gods petitioned the Lord about the suffering inflicted upon them by the demon of Tripura, the Lord of sacred Kailasa, in his boundless compassion, opened all three of his sacred eyes. From them, drops of water fell upon the earth. In order to bestow grace upon all beings, those drops became Rudrākṣas. By the command of Hara, Vidhyeśvarar and others, as well as the immortals such as Hari and Ayan and the sages, wore them and received grace.

சிவபெருமானுடைய திருநாமங்களை உச்சரிக்கின்றவர் களும் உருத்திராக்ஷ அலங்காரத்தை உடையவர்களும் சிவ பக்தர்களுட் சிறந்தவர்களென்பது உண்மை நூற்றுணிபு. ர

It is an established truth of the sacred scriptures that those who recite the sacred names of Lord Shiva and those adorned with Rudraksha ornaments are among the foremost of Shiva’s devotees. R

உருத்திராக்ஷதாரணம் சிவபெருமானது திருக்கண்ணிற் றோன்றும் திருவருட்பேற்றிற்கு அறிகுறியாம்.

Wearing the Rudraksha is a sign of the reception of the divine grace that appears in the sacred eye of Lord Shiva.

மணி - உருத்திரா க்ஷமணி.

*Maṇi—Rudrākṣa maṇi. *

‡ உருத்திர + அக்கம் = உருத்திராக்ஷம்.

‡ Rudra + akṣa = Rudrākṣa.

ரசைவசமயநெறி:- பரமசிவனமலன் பத்தர்க்குச் சின்ன, முருவுடலிற் கண்டியு நீயுறும். (பொது - 162)
