உமாதேவியாரது திருக்கரத்திலுள்ள பத்து விரல்களி னின்றும் தோன்றிய கங்கையானது உலகத்தை அழியாத படி அதன்வேகத்தை அடக்கித் தமது திருச்சடையில் தரித் தருளினமையால் ஆன்மாக்கள் ஆனந்தக் கடலில் ஆழ்கின் றனர். * அகங்காரத்தை அடக்கும் ஆற்றலுடைமையை இது குறிக்கின்றது.

The Ganga that arose from the ten fingers of Goddess Uma was restrained in its force so that it would not destroy the world, and was graciously borne upon His sacred matted locks. Thus, souls immerse themselves in the ocean of bliss. * This signifies the power to subdue ego.

மலைமகளை யொருபாகம் வைத்தலுமே மற்றொருத்தி

By placing the Mountain Maiden as one half of himself, and another woman

சலமுகத்தா வவன்சடையிற் பாயுமது வென்னேடீ

with a turbulent face leaping into his matted locks—what does this mean, my dear?

சலமுகத்தா லவன்சடையிற் பாய்ந்திலளேற் றரணியியாம் பிலமுகத்தே புகப்பாய்ந்து பெருங்கேடாஞ் சாழலோ.

If she had not leapt into his matted locks through her turbulent mouth, she would have plunged into the cavernous mouth of the earth, causing immense destruction—what a marvel!
