The bull as His vehicle.

தருமதேவதையையும் ஞான த்தையும் திருமாலையும் இடப் மாகக் கொண்டது தரும பரிபாலகரும், தருமவடிவினரும், ஞானவடிவினரும், விட்டுணுவுக்கு மேலானவரும் தாமென்ப தனை அறிவுறுத்துவதற்காகும்.

It is to teach that He is the protector of Dharma, the embodiment of Dharma, the embodiment of wisdom, and superior to Vishnu, having Dharma-devata, wisdom, and Tirumal as His left side.

அறனுரு வாகிய வானே றூர்தல்

Riding the sky-bull, which is the embodiment of virtue,

இறையவ னியானென வியற்று மாறே.

He causes it to be understood that He is the Lord.

சிவமூர்த்த முதலிய வடிவங்களை ச் சூழ்ந்து விளங்கும் திரு வாசியை நோக்குமிடத்து. அத னு ண் மை பிரணவமாகக் காணப்படும், அதனால் எல்லா உலகங்களும் எல்லாச் சுருதி களும் பிரணவத்தினின்றுந் தோன்றி ஒடுங்குமென்பதும், பிரணவம் பிரமன் முதலிய தேவர்களுக்குப் பிறப்பிடமாய், சிவபெருமானுக்கே இருப்பிடமாயுள்ளதென்பதும், அதன் பொருளாயிருப்பவர் சிவபெருமானே என்பதும் அறியப்படும்.

When one observes the sacred aureole surrounding forms such as the Sivamurti, it is understood to be the Pranava in its true nature. Thus, it becomes clear that all worlds and all the Vedas arise from and subside into the Pranava; that the Pranava is the birthplace of Brahma and the other gods, while serving as the abode of Lord Shiva alone; and that Lord Shiva Himself is its meaning.
