He graciously assumes these divine bodies in order to grant souls yogic liberation. The fierce forms are such as Jalandharari. They are assumed in order to destroy the souls’ karma and bestow grace upon them. *
Passage 4
The forms of Lord Shiva are not like our impure bodies, which are made of bodily constituents such as skin, blood, and flesh; they are pure and are called forms of Shakti, which is the embodiment of knowledge. This is known from the statements, “The body is not maya; what is seen is Shakti itself,” and “If one asks what the form of Shakti is, it is boundless knowledge.”
Passage 5
The forms of Vinayaka, Subramaniyar, Vairavar, and Virabhadra are also manifestations of the Lord’s grace. Just as the radiant gemstone and its light, fire and the single energy that manifests through its various functions such as burning and consuming, and a tree and its hardness are non-different, so too there is no difference between Lord Shiva and these forms.
Passage 6
This is the truth established by the authoritative scriptures. Therefore, they too are called Shiva.
Passage 7
The forms of Vinayaka and Subramaniyar arose to remove the suffering inflicted upon the devas by Kayamukhasura, Surapadman, and others, and to bestow the bliss of worldly life and liberation upon devotees. The form of Vairava arose to dispel the arrogance that Brahma and others had developed by failing to respect Lord Shiva, while the form of Virabhadra arose to put an end to the offence of reviling Shiva committed by Daksha.
Passage 8
The true scriptures declare that Lord Shiva is the Father, and Vinayaka and the others are His sons. The fact that one and the same Reality is praised as both Father and Son is intended solely for the benefit of souls.

If it is asked whether it is not wrong for Lord Shiva to destroy one person and protect another, the First One’s act of chastisement, like parents correcting, beating, and guiding toward the right path a child who does not conduct himself according to their words, may appear outwardly as anger, but in intention it is indeed grace. This is explained as follows:

“Even if children born to loving parents do not follow the path prescribed by them, the parents beat them with a cane, scold them, and impose various restraints. Yet, when all this is examined, it is seen to be motivated by affection. In the same manner, is not the Lord’s wrath also ever [an expression of] compassion?”
