The Definition of the Lord Who Provides Assistance

எங்கும் வியாபித்து உபகரிக்கும் சிவபிரானார் சுட்டி யறியப்படுதலும் ஒருவாற்றானும் அறியப்படாமையும் ஆகிய இரண்டு தன்மையும் இன்றிச் சித்துப்பொருளும் சத்துப் பொருளுமாகி அருளினால் அறியப்படுபவராய் நிலைபெறு வர் என்று ஆகமங்கள் கூறும். சத்து - உள்பொருள். சித்து - பேரறிவு.

The Agamas state that Lord Shiva, who pervades everywhere and provides assistance, exists as that which is conscious and that which is existent, being knowable through grace, without possessing either of the two characteristics of being apprehended by indication or being in any way unknowable. Sat—that which exists. Chit— supreme consciousness.

சிவபெருமான் வாக்கு மனாதீதராய், பசுஞானத்தாலும் பாசஞானத்தாலும் அறியப்படாதவராய், பதிஞானத்தினால் அறியப்படுபவராய், ஆன்ம அறிவுடன் கலந்து ஒன்றாயும், அறியப்படுதற்குப் பொருட்டன்மை பற்றி ஆன்மாவின் வேறாயும், அறிதற்றொழில் நிகழ்தற்கு ஆன்மாவின் அறி வைச் செலுத்தி அவ்வ றிவோடு உடனாயும் நின்று அறிவிப்பர்.

Lord Shiva, being beyond speech and mind, is unknowable through the knowledge of the soul and the knowledge of the bonds, but knowable through the knowledge of the Lord. He reveals Himself by remaining united with the soul’s consciousness as one without distinction, yet distinct from the soul by virtue of being the object to be known, and by directing the soul’s consciousness so that the act of knowing may take place, remaining simultaneously with that consciousness.

இவ்வாறு உயிரோடு பிரிப்பின்றி + அத்துவிதமாய் நிற் கும் இறைவனாரைக் காண வேண்டின், கண்ணொளியோடு பிரிப்பின்றி நின்று கண்ணுக்கு வேறுவிடயங்களைக் காணும் படி உபகரிக்கும் சூரியனைக் காணவேண்டின் அதன் கிர ணத்தாற் காண்டல் போல, அவருடைய திருவருளினாலே காணுகல் வேண்டும்.

Thus, if one wishes to behold the Lord who stands inseparably and non-dually with the soul, one must behold Him through His divine grace, just as, in order to see the sun—which remains inseparably with the light of the eye and assists the eye in seeing objects other than itself—one sees it by means of its rays.
