तृतीयः खण्डः

Verse १

असद्वा इदमग्र आसीदजातमभूतमप्रतिष्ठितमशब्दमस्पर्शमरूपमरसमगन्धमव्ययम-महान्तमबृहन्तमजमात्मानं मत्वा धीरो न शोचति ॥

asadvā idamagra āsīdajātamabhūtamapratiṣṭhitamaśabdamasparśamarūpamarasamagandhamavyayama-mahāntamabṛhantamajamātmānaṃ matvā dhīro na śocati ॥

In the midst of the heart, is a mass of red flesh in which is the Dahara of Lotus (in shape), blossoming in many ways like lily - there are ten holes in the heart where the vital airs are established. 2. When the (Jiva) is connected with Prana, then he sees rivers and cities of many kinds; when with Vyana, he sees Devas and Rishis; with Apana, Yakshas etc.; with Udana, the celestial worlds, gods, Skanda and Jayanta; with Samana, wealth also; with Vairambha (Prana) sees what is seen, heard, eaten and not eaten, visible and invisible. 3. Then these Nadis become hundred; from these, branch out seventy two thousand Nadis, in which the self sleeps and makes noises, in the second sheath he sleeps and sees this world and the other, hears all sounds - this they call clarity. Prana defends the body. The Nadis are filled with green, blue, yellow, red and white blood. 4. This Dahara lotus is blooming in many ways like a lily and like hair, so also the Nadis are placed in the heart. The divine self sleeps in the great sheath when there are no desires, no sleep even, there are no Devas or their worlds, Yagas, Mother, Father, kinsmen, no thieves or Brahmana-killer. All this is water - Again by the same path, he returns to wakefulness, this Samraj.

अथवा प्रथम सृष्टि के पूर्व यह जगत् असत् (अस्तित्व में होते हुए भी अप्रकट या अव्यक्त) था । यह आत्मा उससे उत्पन्न नहीं हुई है और न ही उसने इससे प्रतिष्ठा पायी है। वह आत्मा अशब्द, अस्पर्श, अरूप, अरस, अगन्ध, अव्यय है, न महान् है, न विस्तार युक्त है, वह जन्म रहित (अजन्मा) है, ऐसा मानकर धीर पुरुष शोक नहीं करते ॥


Verse २

अप्राणममुखमश्रोत्रमवागमनोऽतेजस्कमचक्षुष्कमनामगोत्रमशिरस्कमपाणिपा-दमस्निग्धमलोहितमप्रमेयमह्रस्वमदीर्घमस्थूलमनण्वनल्पमपारमनिर्देश्यमनपावृतम-प्रतर्क्यमप्रकाश्यमसंवृतमनन्तरमबाह्यं न तदश्नाति किंचन न तदश्नाति कश्चन ॥

aprāṇamamukhamaśrotramavāgamano'tejaskamacakṣuṣkamanāmagotramaśiraskamapāṇipā-damasnigdhamalohitamaprameyamahrasvamadīrghamasthūlamanaṇvanalpamapāramanirdeśyamanapāvṛtama-pratarkyamaprakāśyamasaṃvṛtamanantaramabāhyaṃ na tadaśnāti kiṃcana na tadaśnāti kaścana ॥

The heart of all smells is Earth, of tastes water, of forms fire, of touchless air, of sounds ether. Avyakta is the heart of all movements, Mrityu of all Sattvas (living beings). Death indeed becomes one with the supreme Deity. Beyond it there is neither being nor non-being nor their combination - this is the doctrine of Nirvana of the Vedas.

यह आत्मा प्राण रहित, मुख राहित, श्रोत्र रहित, वाणी रहित, मन रहित, तेज रहित, नेत्र रहित, अनाम, अगोत्र, सिर रहित, बिना हाथ-पैर का, स्न्नेह रहित, अलोहित (रक्तरहित अथवा रज आदि गुणत्रय रहित) और अप्रमेय है। यह न लम्बा है, न मोटा है, न स्थूल है, न छोटा है, न कम है। यह अपार है, इसे बताया भी नहीं जा सकता। यह अनावृत है, इसके नियम पर तर्क नहीं किया जा सकता, यह अप्रकाश्य है, असंवृत (असंकीर्ण) है, अन्तर-बाह्य रहित है, न वह कुछ खाता है और न कोई उसे खाता है। इसे सत्य, दान, अनशन प्रधान तप, ब्रह्मचर्य, अखण्ड वैराग्य और अनाशक (स्त्री आदि विषय भोगों के प्रति आसक्ति रहित होना) इन षट् साधनों द्वारा ही जानना चाहिए। इसी प्रकार दम (इन्द्रियदमन), दान और दया इन तीनों की ओर दृष्टि रखनी चाहिए। ऐसा करने वाले का प्राण उत्क्रमण नहीं करता (अर्थात् अन्यत्र नहीं जाता), वरन् इस आत्मतत्त्व में ही विलीन हो जाता है और ब्रह्म होकर ब्रह्म को प्राप्त कर लेता है॥


Verse ३

एतद्वै सत्येन दानेन तपसाऽनाशकेन ब्रह्मचर्येण निर्वेदनेनानाशकेन षडङ्गेनैव साधयेदेतत्त्रयं वीक्षेत दमं दानं दयामिति न तस्य प्राणा उत्क्रामन्त्यत्रैव समवलीयन्ते ब्रह्मैव सन्ब्रह्माप्येति य एवं वेद ॥

etadvai satyena dānena tapasā'nāśakena brahmacaryeṇa nirvedanenānāśakena ṣaḍaṅgenaiva sādhayedetattrayaṃ vīkṣeta damaṃ dānaṃ dayāmiti na tasya prāṇā utkrāmantyatraiva samavalīyante brahmaiva sanbrahmāpyeti ya evaṃ veda ॥
