The Kālikā Purāṇa, one of the eighteen Upapurāṇas — the secondary Purāṇas that stand beside the eighteen Mahāpurāṇas and one of the major Śākta scriptures, associated with the Kāmākhyā shrine in Assam. It narrates the birth of Satī and Pārvatī and their union with Śiva, the origin of the pīṭhas, and sets out at length the worship of the Goddess in her forms as Kālī, Kāmākhyā and Tripurā, together with the rites of pūjā and sacrifice.
