The Samarāṅgaṇasūtradhāra, the Vāstu Śāstra composed by the Paramāra king Bhojadeva of Dhārā (11th century) — the great North Indian counterpart to the Mayamatam and Mānasāra. Across its adhyāyas it treats the origin of the science, the examination of land, town and village planning, the orientation and proportion of dwellings, royal palaces, temples of the northern and southern styles, painting and sculpture, and — in its celebrated closing chapters — the construction of yantras and mechanical devices.
